We'll leave Mérida to Chichen Itza, ancient city of the Itzae Maya. The ceremonial center of this site covers an area of more than 3.5 km. At the same time that you visit its impressive pyramids, plazas and temples: the Castle, the Ball Court, the Observatory and the Nunnery, to name just a few, you'll begin to understand the power of Chichen Itza. For centuries this city was a sacred place and even nowadays pilgrims come from the whole world to visit her.
A delicious buffet lunch will be served at the famous Mayaland Hotel, where you can also take a refreshing rest in any of the swimming pools, stroll through our tropical gardens and watch the birds or simply relax in the fresh breeze. The State of Yucatan has more species of birds than United States and Canada together.
In the evening we'll visit the Light and Sound Show staged nightly in the archaeological site. The play of light on the ancient buildings and tales of warlike rulers, priests and Mayan gods weave their spell and you'll leave Chichen Itza enchanted.
After breakfast you will be transferred to Balankanche caves, located six kilometers from Chichen Itza, these caves were an important ceremonial site for the Maya. A light and sound show that relates the history of these caves has been incorporated into the caves. You will see amazing stalactite and stalagmite formations in Balankanche caves. Two hundred meters from the entrance is the Balam Throne, a type of altar where it is believed the Mayan celebrated some type of ceremony. Many ceremonial objects can be seen at the outdoor museum by the entrance. After return to the Hotel you can enjoy exploring by your own the archaeological site of Chichen Itza, relaxing by the pool or take horseback riding tour.
